With Tax Day approaching, expert shares advice for last-minute filers
JACKSON, Tenn. — With Tax Day approaching on April 15, one expert is offering some advice to last-minute filers.
Lisa Greene-Lewis with Intuit Turbo Tax says that anyone who has not yet filed should be gathering all necessary documents in one place. This includes W-2’s or 1099’s and receipts that show expenses.
She says that it’s best to file as early as possible to ensure you get your refund quickly and identify any possible issues early.
While waiting until the deadline is not uncommon, she says some may be holding off this year due to confusion surrounding new tax proposals and IRS layoffs.
“And one thing I want to emphasize is those new tax proposals that are on the table, they have not passed and they don’t impact your 2024 taxes,” Greene-Lewis said. “And then IRS essential workers who process returns, they were not impacted by the layoffs.”
According to the IRS, the average tax refund was more than $3,000 in 2024.
