Vietnam War Veterans honored

JACKSON, Tenn.—A special gathering in Jackson honors local war veterans.

A celebration hosted Saturday by the Jackson Madison Chapter DAR and the James Madison Chapter TNSSAR recognizes local Vietnam Vets and their family members.

Veterans that took part in the ceremony were honored with a Vietnam War Veteran 50th Commemoration lapel pin as well as a Certificate of Honor.

Those who were on active duty in any location between November 1955 and May 1975 were eligible.

“We came home from war. We didn’t get any parades and all that stuff. So, this is just an opportunity to say welcome home and thank you for your service,” said Larry Newsom, Vietnam Veteran, President of James Madison SAR.

At the event, a proclamation was also signed declaring March 29 as Vietnam Veterans Day in Jackson.
