BBB warns of credit repair scams

JACKSON, Tenn. — The Better Business Bureau is alerting us to another scam that we need to be on the lookout for.

This one is offering to repair your credit. There is actually a law that prohibits collecting an upfront fee before services are preformed to repair your credit. Also, companies are required to provide a written contract detailing exactly what they will do.

They are also required to tell you how long it will take, and give details on the cost.

It is important to make sure you are with a legit company before giving them any information, or payment.

“Even though you feel like it’s going to help you, like I said, do that research. You can repair your credit yourself. You shouldn’t have to pay anyone, or have your information at risk just for a better credit score that you can do yourself,” said Toddnetta Trice, communications specialist for the Better Business Bureau.

Scammers may not ever respond to you after you have sent payment. They also may simply tell you over and over again that it will take time, however nothing will be done.
