Dedication ceremony held for new disaster relief equipment

JACKSON, Tenn. — A special dedication service was held Tuesday morning in east Jackson.

The event was a dedication of new disaster relief equipment donated by an American Red Cross grant to help respond to people in Madison County in need after major disaster events.

The dedication service involved local government, nonprofits and church representatives. Equipment included a fully outfitted chainsaw trailer, a skid steer with grapple hook, a trailer and a powerful diesel truck.

“When we have a disaster event, we can coordinate with local government and local landowners and we can get in to areas and help them with cutting down of, cutting trees, removing of brush, helping them to get access to their homes,” said Jeff Palmer, director of community outreach for Madison-Chester and Crockett Baptist Association.

Palmer shared that this gift of equipment means a greater capacity to help the people of Madison County after a disaster.
