Jackson Arts Council presents update on local arts
JACKSON, Tenn. — Local arts organizations and artists gathered at Jackson City hall Tuesday morning for an important meeting.
The Jackson Arts Council presented an update on local arts at Tuesday’s city council meeting to advocate for continued public support of the arts and culture sector of our community.
The council gave a brief update about the state of the arts and why continuing to support the growing sector is critical for the success and livability of Jackson. Mayor Scott Conger proclaimed April 1, 2025 as ‘Jackson Arts Council Local Arts Advocacy Day.’
“90% of the Jackson Arts Council annual budget is allocated towards programming compared to the minimum recommendation of 65%. We are so very proud of this number because that means that we give back 90 cents for every dollar,” said Dr. Delta Johnson, executive director for the Jackson Arts Council.
The arts council focuses their programming on four main ideas: Grants, advocacy, accessibility and the arts coalition.
