Educator of the Week: Loren Stanford

It’s time now to recognize our Educator of the Week, brought to you by the Tennessee Education Lottery.

Loren Stanford is a 7th and 8th grade math and science teacher at Bargerton Elementary School.

She shares what initially made her want to become a teacher.

“I really like to be able to make a difference and I want to do something that I can see some progress to and these kids, the relationships that I’ve built and some of their things that they have to deal with, at least I can give them some place good to go to and they can come to me if they ever need anything,” said Stanford.

Stanford describes her favorite part of being a teacher.

“Seeing the ‘aha’ moment and that excitement in the science labs, that’s my favorite. I like to do the big stuff, give them something different,” said Stanford.

Stanford explains how she knew teaching was the right choice for her.

“When I go home and I’m excited about the next day and I want to do something more and I plan on my breaks and I do things outside of school hours. I always try to do above and beyond for the kids and that’s what I want, I want them to be the best of the best and it takes time and it takes a heart to do it and so I try to do the best that I can,” said Stanford.

Stanford offers encouragement to anyone pursuing a career in education.

“It’s hard work, it’s a lot to do, but the reward in what you get out of it is so much more than what you put into it sometimes,” said Stanford.

Stanford was surprised by her nomination.

“I was speechless, I was completely lost of words, and I thought that she was kidding at first but it’s, like I don’t even know what to say, it’s amazing and I appreciate it greatly and I love these kids and I love the community so it’s great,” said Stanford.

Stanford is now eligible for the Tennessee Education Lottery Educator of the Month award.
