Selmer community unites despite tragedy

SELMER, Tenn.—A community comes together today to worship following this week’s deadly storms in McNairy county.

Members of Selmer First Baptist Church held a special community worship service today.

Church leaders tells us the goal of today’s service is to provide hope and healing and bring the community together following Thursday morning’s devastating tornado that struck the area.

They also say they also have resources to help the community members who have been affected by the storm.

“We are blessed to have a facility here, that we can really be a community outreach. In fact, this building that we’re in right now is called ‘Reaching Our Community’ so we will be housing the command center of the Tennessee Baptist Relief and they’ll be here however long it takes,” said Sr. Pastor Joey Johnson.

“(We) come together and thank God for the blessings that we have for the community that we have, for the community that we have, for the community that he has placed us in and helps us love one another and to be able to go out and help each other in need,” said Will Shelton, Associate Pastor of Discipleship at First Baptist Church-Selmer.

The pastor says disasters like this help demonstrate the ministry that the church can offer to help the community.
