Canine respiratory disease season is ramping up
JACKSON, Tenn. — Respiratory disease season for dogs is ramping up.
Veterinarians say peak season is between Memorial Day and Labor Day–typically spiking in July. Before this happens, it is important to talk to your veterinarian about vaccination options for your dog.
Canine respiratory illnesses are easily transmitted through dog-to-dog contact, contaminated surfaces like water bowls, leashes and toys and are easily spread at kennels, doggy daycares, or even on neighborhood walks.
So how can you keep your pets safe and protected this season? Dr. Natalie mark says it’s prevention through vaccination.
“First, the oral BBPI contains two things: the BB is the Bordetell, a Bronchiseptica and PI is the canine parainfluenza. These two together, these are the two agents that most commonly cause something most dog parents have heard of–which is kennel cough. I love this vaccine because it’s super comfortable for your dog,” said Dr. Natalie Marks, veterinarian.
The vaccine is administered orally as a mist into the back of your dog’s throat. To learn more about vaccination options near you, click here.
