Record flooding along Obion River, mandatory evacuation orders issued
JACKSON, Tenn. — Flooding in some of our northern counties has prompted mandatory evacuation orders.
Flooding is occurring along the Dyer-Obion County line where the nearest gauge on the Obion River broke its record crest Monday morning at 9 a.m.
At the interchange of state Hwy 105 and U.S Hwy 51 at Trimble, Hwy 105 is completely submerged on the other side of the interchange.
Farther upstream on the Obion River, we attempted to follow up on the flooding in the town of Rives, but we were unable to make it into town due to the flooding.
Farther to the south, the City of Dyersburg issued mandatory evacuation orders for the area of south Dyersburg earlier Monday morning as the North Fork of the Forked Deer River is rising over portions of South Main Street. The road is closed between the 51 Bypass and Cedar Street in downtown Dyersburg.
Dyer County rescue squad crews were seen performing water rescues in south Dyersburg in homes near the intersection of South Main Street and Christie Street, aside from road closures, downtown Dyersburg remains untouched by flooding at this time.
According to the City of Dyersburg, as of 11:30 a.m. Monday, 21 people have been rescued.
The American Red Cross will be setting up a shelter at First United Methodist Church for flood victims. Dyersburg FUMC is located at 100 McGaughey Street downtown.
