Home maintenance tips for spring

JACKSON, Tenn. — Spring has officially sprung and spring cleaning is an opportunity to refresh your home and mind after the long winter months.

Start by cleaning up outdoors. Clear any winter debris, for example limbs, sticks or leaves that have settled in your yard, on your deck or patio. You can also think about fertilizing or aerating your lawn, and make sure your lawn mower is ready to go for the season.

When it comes to cleaning indoors, remember to clean appliances. You can run a small amount of vinegar through a cycle in your washing machine to freshen up future loads.

Also, clean under the refrigerator, especially if you have pets.

“I think you need to pace yourself and kind of come up with projects so that you get through things but you’re not being overwhelmed. Don’t think that you’re going to do your entire spring checklist this Saturday. Let’s go ahead and break that out over a few weekends so that you are maybe spending two or three hours on a weekend,” said Co-founder of Angi.

Experts recommend to plan ahead and budget. Make a list of the things you want to tackle yourself and a list of things to leave up to a professional, so you understand how much you are going to spend and are not surprised.
