Update on local road conditions after major flooding
JACKSON, Tenn. — Several West Tennessee roads were recently under water and sustained damage. We bring you an update on road conditions post-storm.
Several roads in West Tennessee are still underwater including Boone Lane in Madison County. The water has yet to recede, leaving one vehicle stranded.
Also, Sanders Bluff Road caved in from the amount of rainfall we received this past weekend.
“There’s still water rising in many, many places. For instance, US 412 between Jackson and Dyersburg, once the water recedes there, I mean, we’re going to have to get in there and really do a check and evaluate the area. That has been closed since last night right now,” said Percy Jones, Jackson Street Department director.
We checked on a few roads that were temporarily closed in Jackson including Chester Levee and Perry Switch. The water has receded, making it safe for residents to travel.
“Our guys did a great job of getting this stuff together. I mean, we put it down, we cleaned all of these drains before it got hit. We prepared. We took care of all of the trees too, and you got to have all of those roads open to people where they need, hospital or whatever that night, when the storm was coming, they need to get down the road,” said Jones.
As the water recedes, potholes will start to pop up.
“We put five additional crews on potholes as soon as the water receded down because we knew we had potholes. So we’re still working on potholes, but we put a lot of extra crews out there to work on this,” said Jones.
According to the Madison County Highway Department, several roads are still closed including Roberts Station, Westover, Riverside, and also Cerro Gordo Road near Wells Lassiter due to a washed out culvert.
You are encouraged to dial 311 if you come across a pothole in the City of Jackson.
