Samaritan’s Purse continues relief efforts in McNairy Co., volunteers needed

SELMER, Tenn. — Teams of volunteers serving with Samaritan’s Purse, an international Christian relief organization, will continue to help families in Tennessee recover from last week’s deadly tornado.

The EF-3 tornado killed several and left a trail of destruction in McNairy County and surrounding areas. One hundred homes have been destroyed and nearly 200 more are damaged.

Samaritan’s Purse disaster response specialists were on the ground to assess damage and community needs on Sunday after the storm.

A disaster relief unit, consisting of tractor-trailers stocked with tools and supplies, is now set up in Adamsville.

“When all the noise and sound quit. I looked up and said ‘Well, honey, our roof is gone’. The Good Lord had his hands on us because it didn’t put a scratch on us,” said Willie Barnes, homeowner.

They still need volunteers. Anyone interested can head over to their website to sign up and register online.

They are also still accepting work orders from homeowners in need of assistance. They can call 833-747-1234 to submit a request.
