‘Punch-a-thon’ aims to raise awareness, funds on World Parkinson’s Day

JACKSON, Tenn. — Rock Steady Boxing hosts a “punch-a-thon” fundraiser Friday, on World Parkinson’s Day.

Their goal was to raise funds and awareness for their non-contact boxing program for people with Parkinson’s disease.

The event was centered around a one-minute punch-a-thon where participants threw as many punches as they could in one minute to raise money for the organization.

The fun event was held at the lift in downtown Jackson.

“We usually try and maintain any sort of posture correcting. Working a lot on the posterior chain, a lot of times with Parkinson’s you get that hunched-over look, we’re trying to get them up nice and tall. Also with Parkinson’s you might have some decreased endurance, so the circuit-style training kind of helps with building that endurance back a little bit,” said Nate Bishop, head coach for Rock Steady Boxing.

The mission of Rock Steady Boxing is to equip affiliates and empower coaches to improve the quality of life for people with Parkinson’s disease through a non-contact, boxing-based fitness curriculum.
