It was a one vehicle crash that happened around 3 a.m. on April 12. We were able to get in contact with Crockett County Sheriff Troy Klyce about what they responded to.

“We received a call about an accident that had occurred in somebody’s yard. Of course everybody responded expecting to find somebody,” said Sheriff Klyce.

This is what the officers found when they arrived on the scene. Along with nearly 200 yards of a debris field. What they did not find, however, was a person who may have been driving the car. They believe the vehicle left the roadway going at a high speed, struck a culvert, went airborne, flipped several times, and landed in a ditch. The search went on for multiple hours. Drones and even the Tennessee Highway Patrol’s helicopter were used to try and locate somebody.

“We searched everywhere, we searched on top of houses and trees and everything thinking somebody could have been slung from the vehicle,” said Sheriff Klyce.

After many hours of searching, their attempts were unsuccessful. They were able to locate the owner of the vehicle to question him about what happened. However, Sheriff Klyce says it was determined that he was not the driver.

“The owner had been contacted that night. It was no doubt that the owner was not driving that car. He didn’t have a scratch on him. He said that the car had been stolen. He didn’t know it was gone,” said Sheriff Klyce.

This has now been turned over to the Tennessee Highway Patrol. Sheriff Klyce says that, at the moment, it is still a mystery.

THP told us that it is still under investigation. They also said they will release more information as soon as possible.
