Florida artist bringing Jackson’s musical history to life in new mural

JACKSON, Tenn. — A Florida native and visual artist has been selected to paint a new mural in the Hub City, transforming a blank wall at a popular outdoor music venue into a work of public art that reflects the music history of West Tennessee.

Trinity Rivard –an artist from Tampa, Florida — is currently installing a large music-themed mural at The AMP in downtown Jackson.

Rivard was chosen out of a pool of more than 70 applicants to tell the story of rich music history in the City of Jackson, through his artwork.

He said he is very selective in choosing a project, saying it must ignite the create flame inside him.

He was drawn to this project by the music theme because he has musicians in his family.

“I was really inspired because both my bother and my dad are musicians,” Rivard said. “I don’t have any music ability whatsoever, I am more visual; but I grew up in a house of hearing music and I thought what better way with this project to, you know, from one artist to another, to honor their legacy.”

The project on public art installation was started this year through a partnership with the City of Jackson and Our Jackson Home.

“This is our first year working in partnership with the City, and we’ll be installing seven different public installations this fiscal year,” said Lizzie Emmons, Program Director at Our Jackson Home. “So, this is just one of them, and the farmer’s market mural is another. It’s right next to it. We’ll have another functional art installation going up in Anderson Park, so you’ll see three very big new art installations here within the next few months, so just keep an eye out.”

Rivard invites the public to attend a special “behind the scenes” event on Friday, April 18 at 3:30 p.m., where he will talk about what it takes to bring a large-scale mural to life.

A reveal of the completed mural will take place on Saturday, April 26th at 4 p.m. during the Vintage Makers Music & Art Festival.
