Doctor provides tips for parents on how to manage children’s allergies

JACKSON, Tenn. — As we spring into April, parents might notice the appearance of allergy symptoms in their children, such as a runny nose or cough.

According to the CDC, nearly 20% of children report having a seasonal allergy.

Dr. Stephen Palte, chief medical officer of United Healthcare Tennessee, discusses tips for parents seeking ways to help their children cope during allergy season.

“Redness of the eyes, itching — there are eye drops that can be used specifically for that, and there are other things that may help which are not really medications. Saline sprays or saline washouts are also very effective in preventing the symptoms,” said Dr. Palte.

Early diagnosis and a personalized treatment plan are crucial for improving a child’s quality of life.
