‘Our Power, Our Planet’: City of Jackson celebrates Earth Day
JACKSON, Tenn. — Tuesday marks the 55th annual Earth Day.
It’s a day to celebrate mother nature and the planet we all share. Events are being held across America and around the globe. That includes community festivals, beach clean-ups and tree plantings.
This year’s theme is “Our Power, Our Planet.” Focusing on renewable energy and climate action.
It comes as an increasing number of countries call for protections of our air, water, forests and wildlife from industrial pollution and harmful greenhouse gases.
“We all want Jackson to thrive. We want our kids to walk down a clean sidewalk, we want our neighbors to reflect the pride we have in our community. That doesn’t happen by accident, it’s an action. So, today, on Earth Day, let’s make a commitment individually and together to take care of the city not just today but everyday,” said Elvia Trejo, neighborhood specialist for the City of Jackson.
If you’re looking for ways to care for our planet, here are a few ideas: You can limit your use of single-use plastics, go to a composting workshop, or volunteer to pick up trash at a park.
