Father, author talks preparing youth for adulthood

JACKSON, Tenn. — Graduation season is quickly approaching, and transitioning into adulthood can be exciting but also overwhelming for young adults.

With the pressure to find direction in life, combined with learning how to budget and maintain financial independence, it can be mentally and emotionally draining for young adults, sometimes affecting relationships and their social life.

Robert J. Finlay, an entrepreneur, renowned speaker, father of four and author of “Hey Dad,” can attest to receiving countless late-night phone calls from his kids asking: “Hey dad, how do I do this,” or “hey dad, what does this mean?'”

Finley says it’s about being positive and motivating young adults as they go through this transition.

“As a parent you now realize you are no longer there to teach them what to do but to guide them,” Finlay said. “You’ve now become a mentor and understanding that you’re now there to help them along the way, not sort of tell them what to do.”

Finlay says networking and having financial freedom is a positive part of life and a critical skill that can be beneficial in the future.

To learn more about giving kids a head start in the real world without overwhelming them, you can find the book “Hey Dad” on Amazon or anywhere books are sold.
