Annual Hatchie Birdfest kicks off with concert

BROWNSVILLE, Tenn. — One local event is literally “for the birds.”

The Hatchie Birdfest is being held Friday through Sunday at the West Tennessee Delta Heritage Center in Brownsville.

Friday evening, a kickoff was held with a concert, with music featuring “The Dirt Pilgrims.”

The Birdfest offers unique outdoor adventures as more than 200 species of birds await you on the Hatchie National Wildlife Refuge. This free event will include special speakers and demonstrations, hikes and vendors.

It’s perfect for seasoned birders or beginners.

“For beginners, absolutely, we start a lot of hikes by even showing people how to use a pair of binoculars, we’re that basic. We try to give one-on-one attention here at this festival, so everybody can see and enjoy birds. But the other end of the spectrum, it’s also fantastic for the experts cause we always find rare birds and unusual birds that’s good for the folks to see here in Tennessee,” said Bob Ford, executive director of the Hatchie River Conservancy.
