Community bands together to help return stolen cat from Greenway Nursery

JACKSON, Tenn. — A furry friend went missing Sunday, but the community banded together to bring the feline back home.

According to a post on Facebook, around 4:30 p.m. Sunday, Greenway Nursery’s beloved cat, Kit-Kat, had been stolen by two customers.

The initial post was shared across Facebook over one thousand times.

With help from the store’s employees, Milan Police Department, Madison County Sheriff’s Department, and an off-duty Tennessee Highway Patrol officer, Kit-Kat was returned to the nursery’s owner Chris Williams around 10:30 p.m. Sunday.

“A customer pretty much saw the women take it. They’d been acting kind of funny asking all kinds of questions about the cat and this and that and messing with it. They were pretty suspicious acting to begin with so it didn’t take that long,” said Williams.

Charges are not being pursued at this time as the family is thankful to have their cat back unharmed. Kit-Kat was quickly located because the customers that took the cat paid with a card.

Milan PD collaborated with the Madison County Sheriff’s Department and within an hour of making the call, Kit-Kat was back at Greenway Nursery.

“Unreal that we have people that are interested in the nursery and friends of ours — people that love animals, and if it hadn’t been for all of them, we wouldn’t have gotten her back so fast so we really do appreciate it. The Milan Police Department, we spoke with them, and then of course the people lived in Madison county so the Madison County Police Department was the one that actually went and got her, we would like to thank them,” said Williams.

Williams recommends getting your pets microchipped because this can happen to anyone.
