NFPA raises awareness for Wildfire Community Preparedness Day
JACKSON, Tenn. — In honor of Wildfire Community Preparedness Day, the National Fire Protection Association is raising awareness on wildfire risks.
The NFPA encourages residents to use this day to come together and protect their homes and community from wildfires. Here are some simple steps to protect your home.
Clean your roofs and gutters of any debris, replace or repair any loose shingles or roof tiles and think about installing metal mesh screening.
“Tennessee and many other states in the area definitely have a wildfire risk, and that tends to be weather-driven and seasonal. But any time you have high winds, drought conditions, or hot/dry days, if an ignition happens, you can get a fire going. So, we want people to just be aware of their situation and their weather issues,” said Michelle Steinburg, NFPA Wildfire Division Director.
