Spring Plant Sale kicks off in Jackson
JACKSON, Tenn. — Lines were long in the UT Gardens as the annual spring plant sale kicked off Friday morning.
It’s an exciting time here in West Tennessee. The Madison County Master Gardeners and UT Gardens Plant Sale began at 9 a.m.
A long line of attendees stretched through the parking lot, all waiting in anticipation for the sale to begin.
One Master Gardener told us the first attendee arrived just before 5 a.m.
“So, the plant sale focuses on plants that do well in our area and plants that we’ve grown here in the garden and have trialed,” said University of Tennessee Horticulturist Jason Reeves. “And so, people trust the plants that we have here because we have grown them, and there’s plants they can’t find just everywhere. And then, inside the building, the Master Gardeners sale, there’s some plants that are propagated out of people’s home gardens. So, we know they do well in their home gardens, so they’re gonna do well for you.”
The proceeds from the sale will go back into UT Gardens and the community, taking care of the Liberty Gardens and downtown planters.
We spoke with one group of attendees who shared their excitement for the event.
“Oh, really, they’ve always got the newest things, and they’ve got good buys too, so that’s always wonderful to come to this,” one attendee said.
The event was packed with loads of plants and people, and they had a great turnout with well over 300 in attendance.
If you weren’t able to attend the sale Friday — don’t worry! The event continues Saturday, May 3 at the The West Tennessee AgResearch and Education Center, located at 605 Airways Boulevard in Jackson. The sale takes place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
