Local students treated to celebration for book challenge

JACKSON, Tenn. — Faculty, staff and students at one local school are challenged each year to read 20 books during the school year.

This year, 170 students and 17 staff members met the goal at Rose Hill in Jackson.

Thursday, they celebrated with a pizza party, fun activities, prizes including books signed by authors, and a huge inflatable slide!

Librarian Krista Grace was inspired by this idea after reading “The Book Whisperer,” by Donalyn Miller.

Grace says events like this help to create a culture of reading.

“Reading helps make you smart, it’s good for your mind, and for the bonus it’s going to the celebration,” said 5th grader Blakely Bozza.

Thursday was all about celebrating their hard work and just letting them enjoy the fruits of their labor.
