5th annual ‘Arts Backstage’ event showcases local talent

JACKSON, Tenn. — Hub City residents make their way downtown to enjoy the arts from local artists.

The 5th annual Arts Backstage made it’s way to The Ned Arts Center for a night of arts in all forms.

“Each year we’re looking for new art, new kinds of art, and this includes literary art as well as fashion and photography. So, we’re always looking for great artists,” said Andrew Bocks, Jackson Arts Council.

Art displayed Friday night aside from paintings and drawings were dance performances, singing and so many more.

This night is one of the biggest fundraising events for the Jackson Arts Council.

Those that purchase art as part of the silent auction are helping someone out in a big way.

“It helps local artists and arts organizations it also helps with day to day operations, but we want to mostly promote our artists. Everything they sell tonight, it goes directly to them,” said Delita Johnson, executive director for the Jackson Arts Council.

One artists has a collection of art that continues to tell a story in the form of abstract art that demonstrates life.

“Life has the tendency to take us down so many unexpected paths, but every path has a story. We who walk by faith, if we are willing to surrender, we find that it is ok,” said Stormie Steele, artist.

Another artist painted their work live for attendees.

“Paint live, I told him I’m your man. I’ll do it. So, I told him that I’ll just come in and start painting as soon as I get here,” said Jamie Sanchez, artist.

Erin Eller with the Jackson Arts Council shares what’s her favorite part of the night.

“It’s showing our community all of our amazing artist and our amazing performers and the arts in Jackson are growing and we want to show that,” said Eller.

This art exhibits will be on display until the end of May.
