Chester County High presented with award recognizing voter registration
HENDERSON, Tenn. — The Secretary of State’s office is awarding Anne Dallas Dudley Gold Level and Silver Level Awards to Tennessee high schools that meet student voter registration thresholds.
Tennessee Secretary of State Tre Hargett presented the Anne Dallas Dudley Gold Award to Chester County High School on Friday.
This award focuses on increasing voter registration in Tennessee among students who will be 18 or older on or before the next election, in accordance with state law.
“I think it says a lot to the community as a whole, and I think what these high school students are doing, it’s not just registering to vote and committing to be a voter, they also set an example for others,” Hargett said.
The award is named in honor of renowned Tennessee suffragist, Anne Dallas Dudley. As one of the central figures in the women’s suffrage movement, she worked tirelessly to secure the ratification of the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, granting women the right to vote.
