Author sheds light on challenges that youth face

JACKSON, Tenn. — One author is shedding light on the challenges young people face, all the while encouraging open conversations and ensuring they have the support they need.

1-in-7 juveniles between the ages of 10 and 19 live with a mental disorder, accounting for 15% of the global disease burden in this age group.

With so many young people struggling, it’s critical to provide them with tools that promote self-worth and resilience.

Tony Weaver Junior is tackling this issue head-on with his graphic novel “Weirdo,” a book that empowers teens to embrace their identity, develop self-love and navigate the challenges of adolescence, including bullying, anxiety and self-doubt.

“Today’s teenagers are in this very difficult predicament where it’s difficult to come of age and find self love at the same time, and we were always intended to be a part of that solution, to help young people navigate their growth in a way that helps them find joy and high self esteem,” said Tony.

Through his national Self Love Tour, Tony has reached more than 6,000 schools, using storytelling to help young people heal, connect and feel seen.
