National Salvation Army Week celebration kicks off in Jackson

JACKSON, Tenn. — The Salvation Army of Jackson kicked off National Salvation Army Week Monday.

This week-long celebration from May 12 through May 18, highlights the organization’s history, services and impact in the community. It also provides an opportunity to thank volunteers, donors and other stakeholders for their support.

National Salvation Army Week has been observed annually since 1954, when President Dwight D. Eisenhower declared the first National Salvation Army Week.

“We couldn’t do it without the people in the community, all the donations, and different organizations and businesses. Walmart is always a big partner, they’ll bring in cases and truckloads of water and needs that we have,” said Major John Edwards, commanding officer for the Salvation Army of Jackson.

This week, the Salvation Army of Jackson is hosting a series of events and activities to celebrate the organization’s work and mission.
