Major road repavement underway in Jackson, city officials say
JACKSON, Tenn. — As you’ve been driving around town, you may have noticed some smoother roads. That’s because the City of Jackson has officially kicked off its street repaving project.
A major repaving effort is now underway across Jackson. Earlier this week, crews began milling and surface preparation work.
The project has been moving quickly, as several roads have already been completed.
“There was a lot of consideration taken, like I said, how much traffic is on the road, the infrastructure stability, and of course future projects. That’s kind of how its made, not everybody gets put on the list, and the big constraint is the budget. We were fortunate this year, they tripled our budget,” said Amanda Hicks, engineering department director.
With a $9.3 million budget, the engineering department has been able to improve several roads.
“We have already completed Christmasville Road, F.E. Wright, I believe, East University was finishing up and the striping should be going on today. They are finishing paving Campbell today, and we are currently doing Stonebridge and Vann Drive during the evening time,” said Hicks.
According to Hicks, local traffic has not been greatly impacted due to their coordination efforts.
But as Vann Drive undergoes improvements, you can expect slower traffic and lane closures.
“Generally, a replacement project, especially you know we have inspectors out there watching them. They should last anywhere from 15 to 20 years, that’s the hope,” said Hicks.
The City of Jackson is currently working on a list of roads for the second phase. Hicks encourages residents to submit a road request through the 3-1-1 app for consideration.
