Severe Threat Increasing on Friday Across the Ohio River Valley and Mid South!

WBBJ 7 Forecast Update

WBBJ 7 Forecast Update:

One rain shower with a few lightning strikes is moving through this afternoon riding a warm front that will lift to the northeast as the night goes on. This will warm us up into the upper 80s for Thursday and maybe Friday. The atmosphere will become unstable and with the approaching storm system, conditions will become favorable for severe storm development later this week. There could be a severe storm or two late Thursday into Friday morning but Friday Afternoon through Friday night will be the main concern. All severe weather modes appear to be in play. We will break down the timing and everything else you need to know about the storm setup coming up here.

THIS WEEK:

Wednesday was the nicest day of the week for us in West Tennessee. We are expecting mostly dry weather with highs in the mid 80s. There was a brief quick shower with a few lightning strikes riding the warm front, but we didn’t see much. We saw mostly sunny skies to start the day but there were some periods of clouds moving on through as well in the afternoon and evening hours. The winds were light and came out of the south on Wednesday. Wednesday night lows will drop down to around 70° into Thursday morning. The humidity will be on the rise during the night due to the southerly winds and that is why we are expecting a warm start to our Thursday.

Most of the day Thursday is looking pretty good. It will be a hot and humid day with highs reaching the upper 80s. A couple of 90°s cannot be ruled out either. The winds will be a bit breezy and come out of the southwest. Expect partly cloudy skies. There could be a few late night storms after 10pm and one or two of them could be severe so we need to watch things closely late Thursday night into the day on Friday. Thursday night lows will again be warm due to the humidity and drop down to the low 70s to kick off our Friday.

The greatest severe weather threat this week will be here on Friday. There could be a couple strong storms Friday morning but it will be Friday evening into Friday night that we need to stay weather aware. We are already under a 15% storm threat on Friday and the setup looks a bit concerning as of now and it is something we are going to need to keep a close eye on this week as the system gets a little closer.

THE WEEKEND:

The forecast this weekend looks to be a challenging one as we are likely going to be dealing with a stalled out cold front. How far south it stalls out will make a big difference on what our weather is going to be like this weekend. As of now we are expecting the front to stall out just south of us on Saturday keeping showers away for most of the day. There could be a few storms Saturday morning as the front passes through. Highs on Saturday will reach the mid 80s and the winds are expected to come out of the west. Skies will be mostly cloudy in the morning but will try to break up some as the day goes on.

On Sunday, the front is likely going to lift back through bringing another round of pop up showers and storms with it. Highs on Sunday reach the low to mid 80s as the front will lift through in the afternoon or evening hours. The winds will shift back to the southwest late in the day. Expect mostly cloudy skies on Sunday and some of the showers could stick around into the start of next week as well. The weekend forecast could change some so do not cancel your weekend plans yet but keep a close eye on the forecast this week as we develop more confidence in the forecast.
