What’s New Wednesday: A Third Place Coffee & Books

MEDINA, Tenn. — A Third Place Coffee & Books opened in Medina last July.

The shop features a rotating seasonal menu of coffee and teas, along with a variety of syrups and baked goods made in-house.

Customers are greeted by a cozy and comforting environment, surrounded by an eclectic mix of colors and styles inspired by English and French cafes.

Owner Tisha Ewing says she identified a need for a coffee shop in her community, and after finding the perfect building and thrifting furniture, the plan came together.

“I wanted a space for the community, I wanted people to feel comfortable, no matter who they are, where you’re coming from, I want you to walk in here and feel like you belong, and that’s kinda where the name came from,” Ewing said.

With home being your first place, and work or school being second, a “third place” is where people gather for leisure, and that’s exactly what Ewing hopes for her business.

Couches and a variety of comfortable seating are available for anything from a deep conversation to a peaceful moment of reading.

And with a selection of both new and classic novels available to purchase, Ewing says A Third Place is also one of the only independent booksellers in the immediate area.

“It has been more popular than I expected it to be, and I really, really, wanna continue to expand that, because we’ve been having book club meetings here, I’ve got several people who come to me and order books because they want to support small business, and that’s really cool,” said Ewing.

A Third Place Coffee and Books is located at 107 South Main Street in Medina. Currently, they’re open from 7 a.m. – 5 p.m. Monday-Friday, and 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. on Saturday. Ewing says that they may be expanding their hours for summer.
