JMCSS offers therapy services to student support staff amid Mental Health Awareness Month

JACKSON, Tenn. — The Jackson-Madison County School System celebrated Mental Health Awareness Month by supporting their school counselors, social workers and more.

Earlier Thursday, Magnificent Hands and the Positive Living Group recognized the student support staff within the district. Staff members enjoyed a 15 minute massage, food, and an Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy.

“I know that a lot of us, we’re dealing with children that are going through trauma, and we have to be healthy ourselves in order to help those students, and of course, there are so many people who would just hold it in; don’t want to share the things that they’re going through, so we want them to know that it is okay not to be okay,” said Rhonda Bigham, school and community engagement advisor.

The EMDR therapy is a mental health treatment technique that can specialize in PTSD, anxiety and more.
