National Peace Officers Memorial Day: Honoring those who served

JACKSON, Tenn. — Thursday marks National Peace Officers Memorial Day. It’s a day set aside to honor and remember law enforcement officers who have died in the line of duty.

National Peace Officers Memorial Day is also part of National Police Week that goes from May 11 to May 17. Flags are flown at half staff on this day.

National Police Week and National Law Enforcement Memorial Day was established by President Kennedy in 1962.

In recognition of this time of reflection, the Madison County Sheriff’s Office will hold a law enforcement memorial service Friday at 10 a.m. at the sheriff’s office.
