Ceremony celebrates reestablishment of Mental Health Court in Jackson

JACKSON, Tenn. — Judge Blake Anderson and the City of Jackson hosted a ceremony Friday in honor of the reestablishment of Mental Health Court in Jackson City Court.

The mental health court is being reestablished under new funding from the Tennessee Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services. It’s a specialized treatment court for those living with a severe and persistent mental illness.

The mission is to improve the quality of life and mental wellness for participants while reducing recidivism and promoting public safety.

Jackson also has an established recovery court. Case Manager Amber Johnson shares how recovery court offers accountability instead of isolation.

“I could stand in a room full of people and feel like I was the only one there. Since I’ve been here, I’ve been able to have support and I have friends and I’m able to help other people find recovery,” said Johnson.

Johnson has now been sober for four and a half years.
