Leslie “Les” Winebrenner

Leslie “Les” Winebrenner, 96, of Jackson, Tennessee, passed away peacefully at home on May 14, 2025.

Born January 19, 1929, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, Les was raised in Fort Wayne and remained deeply connected to his Hoosier roots throughout his life.

Les met the love of his life, Betty Petty of Jackson, Tennessee, through a coworker in Fort Wayne who was married to Betty’s sister. Their connection was instant, and they soon married, beginning their life together in Fort Wayne. Les proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. After his honorable discharge, he attended night school and earned his Master Craftsman Certification, a testament to his dedication and strong work ethic.

In 1977, Les and Betty moved with their family to Jackson to care for Betty’s ailing mother. He continued his career in construction and later worked at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital, retiring in 1992. Les enjoyed a well-earned retirement filled with fishing, golfing, wood-working in his shop, and spending time with his family and friends.

A devoted member of Pleasant Plains Church of Christ, Les was known for his deep faith, quick wit, and tireless willingness to help others. Whether lending a hand or sharing a laugh, Les made a lasting impression on all who knew him.

Les was preceded in death by his parents, Leslie and Mildred Ethel Weikel Winebrenner, and his sister, June Ann Butler.

He is survived by his beloved wife of many years, Betty Petty Winebrenner; his daughters, Sandra Winebrenner Paschall and Debra A. Winebrenner Patterson; two grandchildren, Stacy Patterson and Joel Paschall, Jr. (Marye); and two great-granddaughters, Charlotte and Magnolia Paschall. He is also survived by his niece, Cindy Patton, along with many friends and loved ones who will miss him dearly.

Les will be remembered most for his humor, his craftsmanship, and his heart for service. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched and the family he cherished.

A service to celebrate Les’ life will be held on Saturday, May 24, 2025 at 2:00 pm at the North Chapel of George A. Smith and Sons. Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends beginning at 1:00 pm, one hour prior to the service.
