“We had about 39 people totally involved in the incident. We transported 27 of them by ambulance and various injuries from very minor to critical,” said Madison County Fire Chief Eric Turner.

This fatal crash involved a pick-up truck and a Greyhound bus.

One of the vehicles caught on fire.

Most of the passengers aboard the bus were not getting off here in Jackson. All of the victims were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The majority of the victims have already been treated and released.

“We had about two or three that had to be extracted from the bus. So, that was a little challenging about the way that they were in there. Not really anything out of the ordinary; just with the amount of patients that we had and so many to take care of at one time, initially. Within a few minutes, we had enough help that filtered in and was able to start managing that,” said Turner.

Greyhound released a statement on Tuesday regarding the crash.

“There were approximately 32 passengers, one bus operator, and one relief driver on board at the time of the accident. Thirty people were hospitalized, and most have already been released. Our team is actively investigating the situation and providing necessary assistance to our passengers, the driver, and law enforcement.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol says the cause of crash is still being investigated.

The bus was traveling its route from Memphis to Nashville.
