BBB: Job scams targeting recent graduates on the rise

JACKSON, Tenn. — More scams are on the rise and the Better Business Bureau is wanting to inform the public of the latest danger.

Recent college and high school graduates are being targeted the most in a recent scam. This one has to do with fake job listings, most of which you can find online.

Toddnetta Trice with the BBB tells us more about it.

“What they are doing is they are replicating, sometimes actual companies. Sometimes they are just actually posting fake jobs. What these students do is they are applying to so many jobs, especially with easy apply, it is so easy to just click one button and you applied to a job,” said Toddnetta Trice, communications specialist with the Better Business Bureau.

Other than being deceived into having a well-paying job, there are more dangers that can come from this scam.

“So they’re sharing some very personal and identifiable information with scammers most times. And then, next thing you know, they are going to be a victim of identity theft,” said Trice.

It is very important to make sure you do your due diligence if you have any worry at all about a potential employer. There is plenty of information available and ways you can ensure you are being safe.

Trice tells us more.

“Always do your research. Look up that company, Google that company, see if it is legit; If someone is emailing you, make sure that aligns with email addresses that go with the actual businesses,” said Trice.

If you suspect that anyone is trying to scam you in this way, or if you fall victim to one of these scams, please contact the Better Business Bureau to report it.
