June marks National Candy Month

JACKSON, Tenn. — People in the U.S. Enjoy chocolate and candy two to three times per week, averaging just 40 calories and about one teaspoon of added sugar per day.

Every U.S. confectionery manufacturing job supports 11 other American jobs in related industries.

The U.S. confectionery industry generates $54 billion in annual sales.

Chocolate and candy enhance summertime traditions and experiences, like going to the beach, embarking on a road trip, going camping, or enjoying an outdoor concert.

“National Candy Month is a perfect moment to kick off a summer of enhancing your favorite summer activities with chocolate and candy, and there is no better way to connect with people and to just enjoy that little bit of sweetness than by sharing some treats,” said Carly Schildaus, director of public affairs and communication for the National Confectioners Association (NCA).

According to the NCA, 76% of Americans treat themselves to chocolate and candy at the movie theater.
