Local students selected for Washington Youth Tour
JACKSON, Tenn. — Six students from the Gibson Electric Membership Corporation service area have been selected for the 2025 Washington Youth Tour.
To be selected for the trip, students were asked to write a 900-word short story for the Electric Cooperatives Creative Writing and Scholarship Competition.
Students were tasked with writing about how co-ops are “Energizing Every Moment” by supplying Tennessee communities with energy, education, broadband, economic development and more.
Rising seniors Jaxon Vredingburgh, Peabody High School; Claire Evans, Crockett County High School; Brian Robertson, Gibson County High School; Catelyn Ripley, Lake County High School; Reese Ulen, Obion County Central High School; and Sophia Harding, Hickman County High School (Kentucky) were announced as the winners.
Vredingburgh, Gibson Electric’s at-large delegate, was the cooperative’s overall winner. His story has been submitted at the state level for the opportunity to win scholarships.
The tour, taking place from June 13-20 in Washington, D.C., will include trips to Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello, the Smithsonian museums, the International Spy Museum, the Washington National Cathedral and more.
