Madison Co. Parks and Rec joins local state park for Fishing Rodeo

THREE WAY, Tenn.—The early morning rain didn’t stop local residents from enjoying a little fishing.

The Madison County Parks and Recreation Department alongside the Middle Fork Bottoms State Park hosted a Fishing Rodeo Saturday.

The event took place from 9 until 11 in the morning at the park located at 111 Sanders Bluff Road in Three Way.

Participants were divided into four age groups including, 5-8, 9-11, 12-13, and 14-15 years old.

Door prizes were given throughout the day and grand prizes were presented to those with the largest catch in each age group. Those winners were presented with a new bicycle.

“Today is Bobby Wilson Free Fishing Day in the state of Tennessee, so people are able to come out and fish for free on any public waters without a license. That’s youth and adults. So today ,we wanted to take advantage of that and let the kids come out a have a good time fishing,” said Ethan Azbill, Sports and Recreation Coordinator for Madison Co. Parks and Rec.

The event was set to coincide with the state of Tennessee’s annual free fishing day. The day allows fishing regardless of residency or age in Tennessee’s public waters, agency-owned lakes, and Tennessee State Parks without a license.

The event is even extended for children 15 and under who can fish free all week until June 13th.
