Teens learn ‘behind the scenes’ skills at The Ned’s theatre production camp

JACKSON, Tenn. — The Ned is giving teenagers a chance to get technical this week at “camp.”

Their summer break theatre production camp began Monday and runs through the rest of the week.

Teenagers ages 13-18 will spend the week learning about the technical side of theatre with The Ned staff.

Campers will learn the backstage elements that make a great on stage show. They will learn about scenic painting, set construction, costuming, props, and even lighting and sound.

“When I first got here, I was the technical director, and we were just kind of brainstorming ways that my role could be outreach to kids in the community, and so we came up with the idea of production camp; because we always have acting camps, or singing camps, or dance camps, but you don’t often see production camps — so I thought that would be fun,” said Will Burke, The Ned’s Production Director.

Students even get a sneak peak behind the scenes of Disney’s “The Hunchback of Notre Dame: The Musical.”
