‘Outdoor book library’ aims to help literacy initiatives in Jackson
JACKSON, Tenn. — One local organization is partnering with the Jackson-Madison County School System to aid literacy initiatives to improve the education of students.
Theta Iota Chapter, Omega Psi Phi Fraternity officially opens their new Omega Outdoor Book Library for young people to continue developing important life skills.
Omega Psi Phi believes reading helps to build an early foundation and teaches them how to express themselves.
The outdoor book library is available to all children, students and adults.
“We are excited because it really does take a village. It takes our community to chime in and be a part of what we’re trying to do for our students in Jackson,” said Dr. Tiffany Spight, Associate Superintendent of Academics and Students.
“We make it a little bit easier. They won’t have to go to the library. They can come here and they don’t have to worry about getting it back at a certain time, they can keep the book if they want,” said Dwight Jones, Vice Basileus of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.
“This is also just a kickoff to our back to school bash that we will do July 26th in partnership with the Jackson-Madison County School System,” said Anthony Bell, Basileus of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.
The outdoor book library is located at 340 North Hays Street in Jackson.
