Scammers hope to exploit summer activities

JACKSON, Tenn. — As summer approaches, scammers are ramping up efforts to exploit seasonal activities and target unsuspecting individuals.

Summer often brings an uptick in specific scams targeting individuals seeking seasonal opportunities or activities.

These scams not only jeopardize finances, but also put individuals at risk for identity theft.

Awareness is crucial as scammers become more sophisticated in their tactics.

Dino Dai Zovi, Head of Security at Cash App, discusses prevalent summer scams, real-life examples, and effective measures to keep the public informed and protected.

“Some of the key warning signs to watch out for are really anything that creates a false sense of urgency. So for instance, if they are saying you have to act now or lose your spot, or if they’re asking for upfront payment, something like a summer job opportunity.”

With increased social activity in the summer, the risk of “smishing” rises, as people become more susceptible to fake text messages.
