JMC School Board members meet, vote on new science textbook curriculum
JACKSON, Tenn.–Even though local schools are out for the summer, that’s not keeping school leaders from working on issues.
Leaders with the Jackson-Madison County School Board met in the school system’s board room Thursday evening to discuss several topics on their agenda.
One of the items discussed was adopting a science textbook curriculum for the school system.
School board leaders said they wish they had time to look at which textbook curriculum would be put forth to be adopted, however the deadline is quickly approaching.
Leaders tell us the reason for having to choose new science books.
” In the state of Tennessee, they adopted a new science standard a couple of years ago and so that’s what warrants us having to get new textbooks to align with the new science standards,” said Dr. Tiffany Spight, Associate Superintendent for Academics for Jackson-Madison County Schools.
School board members voted 5 to 2…with 2 absent to accept the new science curriculum.
The next Jackson-Madison County School Board meeting will be in July.
