Dr. Clarence Gooch honored for decades of service
JACKSON, Tenn. — The Community Foundation of West Tennessee and West Tennessee Healthcare honor a long-time physician, Dr. Clarence Gooch, during a special ceremony.
The event took place at the Volunteer State Medical Association Conference at the DoubleTree Friday afternoon.
The event welcomed local physicians and friends to recognize and remember Dr. Gooch for his contributions to the community during his lifetime.
Dr. Gooch was the first African American OBGYN with privileges at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.
He later expanded his services into the Bolivar and Humboldt areas.
Dr. Gooch was known for his willingness to work with patients, regardless of their ability to pay.
“Our first completed labor and delivery room, will be honored and in memory of him,” said Deena Kail, Vice President Jackson General, Chief Nursing Officer. “For the 35 years of dedication to our hospital and this community.”
The Dr. Clarence and Deborah Gooch Endowment was established at the Community Foundation by colleagues and friends to provide support for nursing education.
To mark this commitment to the health and well-being of the community, a room is being dedicated in his memory at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.
