Jackson Police Department shares 2024-25 crime report
JACKSON, Tenn. — Officials share how the city is moving forward with recent crime reports from the Jackson Police Department.
Leaders with the department released new crimes stats rom 2024-2025 that show a significant decrease in crime activity.
According to Chief Corley, the public may question the validity of their collected data but the information is precise and accurate–which they are mandated to provide to the TBI and FBI at the end of every month.
“Even gunfire at least in the areas that we are collecting data with ShotSpotter has decreased. It’s says incidents have gone down 39.58% and rounds fired have gone down 47.59%,” said Chief Corley.
Chief Corley tells us the Jackson Police Department has grown in size from 183 officers to 211 police officers.
Six officers are still in training that takes approximately five to six months to complete. JPD believes the department is taking the necessary step to make a difference.
“There has been overall decrease in crime. It doesn’t feel like it when we have a homicide but that is the case,” said Chief Corley.
Here’s what JPD says they are lacking in terms of equipment.
“As far as equipment, our biggest hurdle is vehicles, and I know a lot of people talk about the police department wanting a bunch of vehicles, and yeah, we do, but that’s our office. We’re on the street 24/7,” said Chief Corley.
On the City of Jackson website you can view JPD’s comprehensive five-year strategic plan that will serve as a roadmap for the department’s priorities and initiatives from 2025 to 2029. The plan will guide decision-making, set measurable goals and allow for progress tracking over the next five years.
The Jackson Police Department encourage the public to utilize their online Police to Citizen program that provides a very transparent way to see what’s happening around them.
