Teen dead following shooting at private party
OBION COUNTY, Tenn. – Law enforcement officials confirmed a 17-year-old has been shot and killed during a party on Sunday morning.
According to Captain Scott Watkins with the Obion County Sheriff’s Department, the department was notified at approximately 3 a.m. on Sunday morning that a shooting had taken place in the 300 block of Highway 22 in Union City.
Watkins said the shooting happened during a private party. A 17-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene and a 16-year-old was airlifted to Regional One Health with gunshot wounds. Watkins said at least one of the shooters was 16-years-old.
“We don’t really know how many shooters we have at this point,” said Watkins.
Law enforcement is still investigating the shooting to determine what prompted the gunfire. The names of the individuals involved are not being released due to them being juveniles.
“It’s another senseless, pointless murder,” said Watkins.
