Mid-South Youth Camp returns for another summer of fun

CHESTER COUNTY, Tenn. — Tradition continues in Chester County as a local youth camp hosts hundreds of kids each week.

For many decades, Freed-Hardeman University has hosted Mid-South Youth Camp right off of Highway 45 in Henderson. Each year, thousands of kids flood the campgrounds for eight different weeks. The camp counselors are FHU students.

We were able to speak with some who told us about why camp is loved by so many.

“It is a camp that kids of all ages can come and learn more about God, they can spend time with kids who are facing the same things that they are, and it is a place that they don’t really feel alone,” said Griffin Hancock, boys head counselor.

The overnight camp is for ages 8-18 and begins on Sunday afternoon and ends Friday morning. They are only halfway through, so there are still plenty of weeks left.

“Right now we are in the middle of the 4th week, so we still have four more weeks of camp,” said Hallie Bramblett, girls head counselor. “A few of them are completely filled up, but there are still some weeks left. So please sign up!”

There is a day camp as well for ages 6-9. It goes from 7:30 in the morning until 2:30 in the afternoon. Junior camp director Ally Rogers tells us this is a great way for kids to learn about Mid-South and fall in love with it. It has become so popular, that they have extended the amount of weeks it is offered.

“In 21 years it has just grown by leaps and bounds,” said Ally Rogers, Jr. camp director. “We have a fabulous group of counselors and have had over the last several years. The demand for more kids to be here safely each week. Whenever my counselors said they could do an extra week, I said let’s go for it.”

For over 60 years, Mid-South Youth Camp has welcomed thousands of kids every single summer.
