TDOT provides update on State Route 76 bypass construction

TREZEVANT, Tenn. — Progress continues on bypass construction in one local county.

We visited Big Buck Road in the Trezevant area where they’re currently doing construction. US 79/SR 76 is being diverted into new alignment near Cutlip Lane and the connector road, so the speed limit has been reduced to 35 miles an hour.

According to TDOT, traffic will be shifted to the new alignment leading into Trezevant.

“Down 105 towards McLemoresville, that’s where it keeps going and gets over into Atwood to connect on that end,” said Nichole Lawrence, regional communication specialist for TDOT.

Traffic will proceed down the new alignment to an all-way stop and then proceed onto old US 79 (SR76).

Lawrence tells us what you can expect during your commute through Carroll County Wednesday.

“They’re doing some swapping over with the traffic tomorrow into the new lanes, so that they can work on tearing up the old lanes,” said Lawrence.

This part of the project was supposed to initially start on Monday, but it was put on pause due to inclement weather.

“The rain has just really kind of delayed that shift. We tried to do it Monday and that weekend; rain kind of pushed us back a little bit,” said Lawrence.

There will be a traffic shift/run-a-round on SR 105 where new US 79 (SR 76) crosses. Dorsey Road is also projected to close for utility realignment and road construction. Detour routes can be expected in the oncoming days.

According to TDOT, the entire project costs $37.8 million and is estimated to be completed August 30 of 2027. For more information, click here.
