20 years missing: Family of Freddie Louis Whittiemore seeks answers

FROM THE FAMILY OF FREDDIE LOUIS WHITTIEMORE:

The family of Freddie Louis Whittiemore asks if it would be possible to mention their loved ones story as today marks 20 years since Mr. Buddy’s disappearance.

He left the morning of 6-19-2005 to take his daily walk. He was last seen on Hwy. 179 on Charleston Rd. An initial search conducted tracked his scent to Muddy Creek bridge. It was determined by the dog handlers that foul play was suspected. He was never seen or heard from again.

In October 2024, his daughter Julie Goodman, was given information that a man left a tip with local authorities with information related to her father’s disappearance. This tip led to names of individuals who are alleged to have murdered Mr. Buddy that day and then buried his body to have covered up the crime. The Haywood County Sheriff’s Office reopened his cold case.

However, as with most rural departments cold cases require manpower and funds that these departments just do not have. The family has obtained a private investigator with renewed hopes of solving his crime and finding his remains to finally have closure to decades of searching and not knowing.

“The very people who killed my dad are still right there in his community. We just want his remains to end all of this.”- a statement from his daughter Julie Goodman.

If anyone has any information related to his disappearance or location of his remains, they are urged to contact the Haywood County Sheriff’s Office at 731-772-6158.
