Billy Dwayne Cooper
After graduating high school, Billy proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1952 to 1957. Following his service, he began a long and successful career with International Harvester in 1957, where he worked until 1975. In 1975, he moved to Jackson, Tennessee, where he became co-owner of Volunteer International. In 1992, Billy became the sole owner of the company and remained dedicated to its success until his retirement in 2006.
A man of strong passions and unwavering loyalty, Billy was a devoted fan of the St. Louis Cardinals, the Dallas Cowboys, and the Boston Celtics. He also held a special place in his heart for the Union University Girls Basketball program, which he proudly supported for many years.
Billy is survived by his loving wife, Carolyn; his daughters, Sheila Hill and Teresa Cooper; his son, Brent Cooper (Jil); and his sisters, Kathlene Benton and Willene Cooper. He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren: Dustin Hill, Marissa Hill, Amanda Cooper, Will Cooper (Abbey), Dane Beasley (Hallie), and D.J. Beasley; and his beloved great-grandchildren: Aubrey Hill, Eva Hill, Aerial Campbell, Candice Campbell, Cece Beasley, Shap Beasley, and Leo DiMarco.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Ophia Crews Cooper, and his brothers, James and Maurice Cooper.
A huge special thanks from the family to our three caregivers Helen White, Denise Chandler and Sharon Hicks. They have given their best, even during a tough situation.
A private family ceremony will be held on Sunday, June 22nd at George A. Smith and Sons North Chapel. Following the service, friends and family are invited to gather in celebration of Billy’s life at 181 Willow Ridge Circle in Jackson, Tennessee from 12-2pm
Billy will be remembered for his quiet strength, his enduring work ethic, his deep love for his family, and the many lives he touched through his kindness, generosity, and unwavering integrity.
